Increased efficiency coupled with the reduced use of resources
As a provider of high-quality services, Klüh Cleaning contributed greatly to preserving the value of residential and commercial properties in 2022. Maintenance cleaning, glass and facade cleaning, industrial cleaning, thorough and special cleaning and the maintenance of outdoor installations were the focus of process optimisation through innovation. Over the past years, Klüh’s Cleaning division has increasingly evolved to become a knowledge-based partner for clients, at the same time making an important contribution to ensuring that people feel comfortable in their environment.
The ongoing digitalisation of building cleaning operations resulted in further quality improvements and the potential to reduce the consumption of water, cleaning agents and other resources, for example. By deploying smart systems in many properties, it was possible to identify how intensively surfaces and rooms are used in order to define cleaning schedules and make recommendations for materials. Cleaning was then performed on the basis of actual need, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing the use of resources. State-of-the-art cleaning machines, including robotics and cobotics, additionally contributed to reducing the consumption of water and cleaning agents.
One key achievement in October 2022 was raising the industry’s minimum wage by 12.55%. Glass and facade cleaning specialists have been earning considerably more since then as well. This increase is consistent with Klüh’s sustainable approach to its workforce and a major advantage in personnel recruitment.
Klüh Facility Services GmbH is a wholly subsidiary of Klüh Cleaning, providing catering, security and support services as well as maintenance, glass and special cleaning.
Multiple awards for the valued business and care caterer
For Klüh Catering, 2022 not only marked Klüh’s 111th anniversary but a major celebration of its own: 30 years of success in providing mass catering solutions. This anniversary year was crowned with valuable titles, awards, new contracts and contract renewals from long-standing customers.
At the end of the year, Klüh Catering was honoured with the German Customer Award 2022/2023 from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Verbraucherstudien mbH. Klüh was ranked first for customer satisfaction and third for customer service in the company canteen category. The company was also rated the top contract caterer1, took second place in the customer service award2 and received the bronze MARKETING.AWARD for institutional catering3, following the award in autumn 2021 of the catering industry Oscar, the ‘Frankfurter Preis – Großer Preis der deutschen Gemeinschaftsgastronomie’.
A major event for Klüh Catering in 2022 was the establishment of its consulting company, Keros Consult GmbH. This enables Klüh to sustainably improve catering processes in company canteens, hospitals, clinics and rehabilitation centres, residential care homes and homes for the elderly, kindergartens and schools.
In 2022, Klüh’s catering experts worked with mind and soul to serve an average of 40,000 meals each day, adding up to more than 1 million meals for employees, patients, senior citizens, school pupils, students, guests and travellers each month.

Hygiene specialist works in strict compliance with the new DIN 13063
Since September 2021, the quality of cleaning and disinfection services and quality assurance in hospitals and other medical facilities has been governed by the new DIN 13063, the result of five years of intensive development. For the first time, this standard defines requirements for both the service provider and the client (hospital/medical facility). A recognised hygiene specialist, Klüh Clinic Service immediately revised and republished its hygiene handbook to reflect the important new guidelines. All of its e-learning courses were modified and many employees received specialist training at the Klüh Academy.
One focus of the DIN standard is continuous communication, the clear definition of client responsibilities and the specification of responsibilities at the client/service provider interface. The Klüh Clinic Service team therefore visited many clients throughout Germany to explain the new requirements.
The risks to daily hospital operations were minimised by creating service companies, at the same time increasing both efficiency and effectiveness. Klüh Care Management GmbH bundles a broad range of secondary and tertiary healthcare services in these companies and manages them as well. In 2022, Klüh was managing 21 service companies which, thanks to continuous reporting and quality management, ensured greater transparency. Costs were reduced by pooled purchasing from the service provider and outsourcing resulted in flexible time planning, the transfer of knowledge and long-term partnerships.
Innovative security solutions and a new specialist academy
In 2022, with the support of the Marketing department and a team of experts, Klüh’s Security division enhanced its profile as the customer-focused architect of innovative security solutions for all sensitive areas. As a private security services provider, Klüh Security has been making a substantial contribution to security in Germany for more than 30 years. Clients include the operators of German airports. Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG has been a satisfied Klüh client for five years at Leipzig Airport and almost 20 years at Dresden Airport. In 2022, it extended its contract with Klüh Security at both airports for a further six years.
Among our other long-term clients are many security-relevant organisations, including the German armed forces, utility companies, banks, high-tech manufacturers, healthcare facilities and ports. In 2022, Klüh Security became the partner to the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) and defence company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, both of which specify the highest security standards. Thanks to its impressively high quality and very well-trained and certified employees, Klüh Security can offer customised security concepts. It combines human resources, digital processes and state-of-the-art security technology to deliver innovative solutions.
With the new Rheinische Akademie für Sicherheit und Wirtschaft (RASW), Klüh Security has expanded its acknowledged training and development expertise for the security industry.
Increased client demand for temporary staff and direct placement
Germany’s temporary staff market has grown again. Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and supply chain problems, this trend was already evident in 2021. It is a sign of the German economy’s strong demand for personnel. Companies are unable to meet this demand themselves in the short term which has led to the growing acceptance of personnel placement services.
In 2022, Klüh Personnel Service remained a reliable partner to its clients in the event of staff shortages and acute peaks in demand. The company deployed great expertise and empathy to match clients with qualified candidates and manage the recruitment process, enabling both parties to benefit from a risk-free probation period.
The Klüh Group’s specialist personnel service provider has aligned its portfolio with future labour market challenges by providing temporary staff, direct placement, on-site management and master vendor solutions.
Qualified staff were recruited for partners in commerce and technology, trade and industry, private companies and public bodies.
Valuable support at major airports and hubs
Aviation is a very demanding industry that continued to face many challenges in 2022. As a long-standing and valued service partner to the aviation industry, Klüh Airport Service provides support to airports, airlines and ground handling companies. Klüh Airport Service differs from other service providers thanks to its enormous experience and access to the broad offering of networked services from the Klüh Group.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine, losses were recorded in 2021 and 2022. However, there are grounds for optimism. The summer flight schedule from German airports was positive overall and marked a return to between 80 and 90% of pre-crisis levels. The locations served by Klüh Airport Service performed comparatively well and the commitment of the company’s employees helped alleviate the chaotic market situation. The company handled 75,000 aircraft, cleaning 15 million seats. In Berlin, 2.4 million kilograms of post were loaded and unloaded. At Düsseldorf Airport, 168 employees assisted more than 175,000 passengers with reduced mobility.
Last year, Klüh deployed 110 employees at Frankfurt Airport, Europe’s main hub, 100 at Berlin Brandenburg Airport and around 300 at Düsseldorf Airport.
Further improvement in efficiency in facility management
Freeing up time for clients and improving efficiency in facility management remained the goals of Klüh Integrated Services in 2022. In a modular approach, clients can choose which of Klüh’s facility management services they want to support their core processes. Expertise in the areas of Cleaning, Technical Services, Security, Catering and Personnel Service can be selected individually or as a package. The innovative multiservices provider can also fully manage all infrastructure services for clients if they wish.
Applying the one-face-to-the-customer principle, Klüh assigns one single point of contact for each client to manage and coordinate all activities and take relevant decisions. The cross-functional teams are tailored to clients’ individual needs and have experience in contracts of the same scope and structure.
Thanks to its decades of experience in various sectors, Klüh is a strong partner that works on equal terms with its clients. As a result, Klüh Integrated Services focused on reducing client-side costs and improving service quality at the same time. Using the customer satisfaction tool in DigiService, its innovative web-based customer service portal, Klüh was able to measure and analyse all its services, thus ensuring transparency and creating the basis for optimising service quality.
